Summer might technically be drawing to a close in central Indiana, but you’re definitely not done with the AC part of your HVAC! Most people don’t think too much about their HVAC unless it stops working. And if it does, contact Westside Plumbing, Inc. for fast, reliable help. In the meantime, take a few moments to do some DIY maintenance tasks to keep your HVAC system working hard for you!
1. Change Air Filters
Air filters should be changed approximately four times a year to maximize the efficiency of your HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system. When air filters are clear of dust and debris, air moves through them much more easily. Besides making your air conditioning work better in general, it will also prolong the life of your HVAC unit.
2. Clear Vents and Registers
At the same time you change the air filters, walk around the house and clear any brush and debris away from the air conditioning unit and any vents or registers. This will ensure the unit isn’t working harder than it needs to.
3. Take a Listen
Besides not outputting cold air, one of the first signs of problems with the HVAC unit is loud noises coming from the unit. Listen for grinding, squealing, or whirring sounds that are outside of the sounds you normally hear from the unit.
