When you move into a new home, most people get busy placing furniture, hanging pictures, and doing other cosmetic things to make the house look and feel like their own. However, at Westside Plumbing, Inc., we want to remind home buyers not to forget to install or replace a few things in your new home—both for your safety and your peace of mind.
Yes, the previous homeowners will hand over the keys to your home at closing. However, it’s still a good idea to change the locks whenever you move to a house that had previous occupants. Lock replacement or rekeying will give you peace of mind and enhance your home security.
2. Furnace Filters
Your home’s indoor air quality is important to your family’s health. After you get possession of your new home, be sure to change out old furnace filters with new ones. You may even want to change them more often in the first few months to get rid of any allergens or pet dander that you don’t want to have circulating in your home. We also recommend that you consider HVAC system cleaning and maintenance to make sure you get a clean, fresh start.
You can clean all you want, but there’s just something about using another person’s toilet that just doesn’t feel right. As a new homeowner, you may choose to replace only the toilet seat, or if you want a completely clean start (and perhaps a more efficient model), you can also install a completely new toilet.
Before you get busy putting your family photos up on the wall, don’t forget to take care of some of these household tasks. You will be glad you did.
